Sports on campus

We're one of the top sporting colleges of the University of London with more than 80 sports teams and fantastic facilities. You can play sport competitively against other universities, keep fit, or just enjoy a game of football with your friends.

Hear from some of our students:

“I started playing Ultimate Frisbee whilst I was on my year abroad, and I fell in love with the sport immediately. I found that Ultimate Frisbee is not well known around the university and so being President of the club has given me the opportunity to increase both the size of the club, as well as gain more awareness across the campus.”

Veronika, MA Consumption, Culture and Marketing, President of Royal Holloway Ultimate Frisbee

“I started rowing at school at school when I was 14. I competed for my country, South Africa, numerous times and went to the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Having the newly upgraded Royal Holloway fitness suite so close to my halls has made training much easier and having a full time strength and conditioning coach has greatly improved my quality of training. I’ve also been able to row with athletes from all over the world while rowing for the university.”

Dylan, BSc Computer Science, Sports scholar and Paralympic rower

"I didn’t get to play much basketball in school so I was really looking forward to joining when I came here. I love it. It’s a real team sport. We’ve got people who’ve played a lot and those who’ve never played before, which is perfect for the team dynamic."

Charlie, Basketball Club President

Our campus-based facilities have world-class outdoor pitches including a third generation rugby/football pitch approved by FIFA, squash courts, netball courts, tennis courts and a fully-equipped sports centre.

The Sports Centre has a multi-use sports hall and 60-station fitness suite complete with cardio, weights, resistance machines and a jam-packed class schedule. Whether you prefer yoga or spin, there’s plenty to keep you on the move. Membership of our Sports Centre is also open to the local community and businesses.

Whether you consider yourself a pro or want to try something new, there are teams and clubs to cater for your needs. More than 1,300 of our students belong to one of our 80 sports teams, competing in BUCS and LUSL competitions.

There are also social league games twice a week so you can play against your fellow students.

Another way to get involved in sport is to join one of our 39 sports clubs. These cover everything from American Football to Water Skiing. You don't need to be an expert. Try a taster session and have a go at Ultimate Frisbee, Ninjutsu or whatever takes your fancy.

If you’re at the top of your game and compete at a national and international level, we may be able to offer you one of our sports scholarships.

Many of our facilities are available for hire. Email us at sportsbookings@royalholloway.ac.uk
